On Juneteenth with Annette Gordon-Reed

Gordon-Reed will discuss her 2021 book, On Juneteenth. The book weaves together American history, dramatic family chronicle and memoir to reveal the story of Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of institutional enslavement of Blacks in the U.S. In 2021, June 19, known as Juneteenth National Independence Day, was recognized as a federal holiday. Annette Gordon-Reed, the first Black recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for history, is one of the most authoritative voices on race and history in the U.S. Professor of history in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University
